Professor Joseph A. Grundfest

Professor Grundfest is the William A. Franke Professor of Law and Business at Stanford Law School. His scholarship has been published in the Harvard, Yale, and Stanford Law Reviews, and he has received multiple teaching awards. Professor Grundfest served as a Commissioner of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission from 1985 through 1990, and as counsel and senior economist at the President's Council of Economic Advisors in 1984 and 1985. Professor Grundfest is founder of the Directors' College at Stanford Law School, a leading venue for professional education of corporate directors, and serves as principal investigator of the Stanford Securities Class Action Clearinghouse, an internet based research facility that tracks class action securities fraud litigation. Professor Grundfest also serves on the board of the Oracle Corporation and is a cofounder and director of Financial Engines, Inc. Professor Grundfest's current research focuses on matters related to securities fraud, complex litigation, corporate governance, and statutory interpretation. He is a graduate of Yale College, has completed the M.Sc. Program in Mathematics and Mathematical Economics at the London School of Economics, and obtained a law degree from Stanford where he also completed all requirements for a Ph.D. in economics but for the dissertation. The National Law Journal lists him as among the 100 most influential attorneys in the nation.
